1906 From Sophus Falck to today’s global organisation

Meet Falck’s founder. Sophus Falck volunteered to fight the flames of the Great Christiansborg Fire in 1884. Twenty-two years later, he established Falck.

Over the years, Falck has offered many services, including security services, diving and water rescues, and even first aid for animals.

Today, Falck is a global business operating in 25 countries, focusing on healthcare and emergency response services.

1908 Development of Falck’s ambulance service

In 1908, Falck pioneered the introduction of motorised ambulance transportation in Scandinavia. Before that, patients were transported by horse-drawn carriages.

For many years, ambulances drove ‘Load and go’ transport to the hospital. In 1973, Denmark established its first training programme to develop the role.

Today, ambulance personnel play a vital role in pre-hospital treatment, with specialised training and equipment.

1940  Women in male dominated professions

Mrs Johansen was the first woman to work at Falck. Before her, 200 ‘Falck Lotties’ volunteered during the Second World War.

Women entered Falck’s rescue operations as patient drivers in 1979, known as the ‘Falckolines’. In 1986, ‘Pippi’ became the first female ambulance responder.

Today, 33% of Falck’s employees are women, working across all Falck’s services and countries.

2008 From the first acquisition in USA to today’s healthcare provider in the States

Falck entered the U.S. market in 2008 by acquiring an offshore safety and training company and expanded into ambulance services in California in 2010.

Supporting the US communities, Falck offers local events focused on public safety and health, including public CPR training and blood pressure checks.

Today, Falck provides ambulance services across California, Colorado and Texas, responding to 900,000 calls a year and covering a population of 10 million people.

2000 From the first healthcare clinics to todays advanced virtual healthcare

Falck opened healthcare clinics in Denmark in the early 2000s, building a network of 1,000 clinics for physical and psychological support.

Over time, Falck has expanded healthcare services to different markets. In Sweden and Norway, we deliver workplace-focused healthcare services supporting employers and employees.

In Latin America, virtual healthcare combines speed, accessibility and clinical support. The service is designed to make healthcare accessible, personal and reliable.
