Germany's largest ambulance company becomes part of Falck

In acquiring G.A.R.D., Falck has opened the door to the growing German market for ambulance services.
G.A.R.D. has close to 1000 employees and 340 vehicles and provides ambulance and patient transport services to people in the northern part of Germany in close collaboration with the authorities.
"Our business in Germany is currently too small and unknown in many German länder for us to win tenders and contracts to the extent we would like to. With G.A.R.D. as our platform, we will have the local presence and track record we need to win a part of this important and growing market neighbouring our domestic market to the south," said Falck's President and CEO Allan Søgaard Larsen.
The German market for ambulance and patient transport services is the largest in Europe with annual revenue of EUR 3,2 billion. Less than 10% of these services are currently provided by private-sector operators, but this share is expected to grow significantly as the authorities in a number of länder and cities are planning to invite tenders for a number of prehospital services over the next few years.
"G.A.R.D. is a very efficient company, and the management and staff have the heart in the right place. G.A.R.D. is therefore the right organisation for Falck to build on for the benefit of both the general public and the authorities in Germany,” said Allan Søgaard Larsen.
The Executive Management of G.A.R.D. will be in charge of all of Falck's prehospital activities in Germany.
The acquisition of G.A.R.D. is subject to approval by the German competition authorities.
