Falck acquires German ambulance company

For the first time, Falck will be active in rescue operations in Germany. Falck has bought the German ambulance and patient transport company Krankentransport Herzig GmbH with headquarters in Hamm in the region North Rhine-Westphalia. The company employs nearly 100 persons and has more than 20 vehicles.
The takeover of Krankentransport Herzig GmbH means that, for the first time, Falck will be active in rescue operations in Germany. According to Managing Director of Falck’s German ambulance company, Falck Rettungsdienst GmbH, Professor Dr. Klaus Runggaldier, the decision to take over the family-run company founded in 1949 was a conscious one.
Krankentransport Herzig GmbH and its owner, Dieter Herzig, have an excellent reputation in this field. Its emergency medical services personnel is well trained and highly motivated. Every year, the company handles an average of 30,000 journeys. Falck was able to engage the previous Managing Director and company owner, Dieter Herzig, to continue working in the company.
“We would like to sustainably demonstrate to all of the decision makers in the fields of politics and administration as well as to all citizens that Falck stands for state-of-the-art quality and modern workplaces in the field of rescue operations,” said Klaus Runggaldier.
In future, over 80 German employees will wear the falcon on their uniforms and be a part of the 23,000 employees that make up the Falck Group. In particular, according to Klaus Runggaldier, the company wants to find new approaches to dealing with the development of its personnel.
Runggaldier emphasized that the school for rescue operations, which is part of the Herzig company, will deliver important synergy effects for both initial and further training.
Disaster management represents a further field of activity. Managing Director Klaus Runggaldier stated:
“As a modern company, we are fully aware of our social responsibility. This includes providing assistance in disaster management as well as when major accidents have occurred.”
During the next few weeks, the company plans to approach various public offices as well as to look into the foundation of a registered association for volunteers, which it will provide with the necessary support.
The Chief of the Fire Brigade of the City of Hamm, graduate engineer Wilhelm Tigges, sees an enormous advantage in this takeover by Falck:
“In future, an extremely experienced and economically strong corporation will now jointly ensure the important task of rescue operations together with the Fire Brigade of the City of Hamm. The City of Hamm, its citizens and the new Falck employees will all profit significantly from this.”
In the short to medium-term, taking part in tenders is at the top of Falck's priority list, and Falck does not exclude further company takeovers.
