Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service and Falck EMS UK Ltd sign Memorandum of Understanding

Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service and Falck EMS UK Ltd have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to develop ways of working together as preferred partners.
The MOU, which has been signed by Chief Fire Officer Lee Howell and CEO of Falck A/S – the mother company of Falck EMS UK Ltd - Allan Søgaard Larsen, will see the two organisations come together for mutual benefit to the community, clients and customers.
Chief Fire Officer Lee Howell is pleased with what this will mean for Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service. He said: “Working with an organisation with a large global presence such as Falck will bring huge benefits. This is the first step to what I hope will be a successful partnership in the future.”
CEO Allan Søgaard Larsen of Falck A/S is looking forward to offering Falck’s international know how and extensive experience of cooperation with public authorities to Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service.
“For decades Falck has provided fire fighting services to the majority of the Danish municipalities in close collaboration with the authorities. Based on both these and our international experiences we believe that both parties have much to gain from this public private partnership.“

Together the two organisations will explore commercial opportunities in the UK Fire sector.

The Service supports operational activity with a bespoke training Academy with schools in Plymouth, Avonmouth, and Exeter. The service attends approximately 21000 calls per annum and has a diverse spread of risk including Europe’s largest military dockyard, 2 airports, 2 major cities, 20,000 km of roads, 900 km of coastline, nuclear power stations and an annual influx of tourists which represent a 25 % increase in population every year.
Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service has established a commercial trading capability after consulting with the public and other stakeholders with an overwhelming positive support for the initiative.
